In January 2011 I joined a research vessel in Nova Scotia. We transited to West Greenland to start conducting research on marine mammals and seabirds. The journey was very rough with extreme weather conditions (reaching -40°C at times). The latter meant that the ship was vulnerable to become iced-over which makes the ship ‘top-heavy’ (something you want to avoid in stormy seas!). The scenery was stunning and here you can see a few images. There are further images of seabirds and ice. Enjoy!!
